LINDI IN PARTNERSHIP WITH BG TANZANIA

Last week Wednesday our team was in Lindi in partnership with BG Tanzania, we donate 700 desks. This initiative was implemented in collaboration with Lindi Regional Authorities, as part of BG Tanzania’s extensive Social Investment in the Region.

The desks were distributed to twelve (12) schools in five (5) districts in Lindi; thereby lifting over 2,100 girls and boys off the floor onto desks, thus enabling them to continue their education with better learning environment.

The handover event was held at the Mnazi Mmoja Primary School in Lindi Municipal. The event was graced by the presence of Mr. Abdallah D. Chikota, Lindi Regional Administrative Secretary (RAS) as guest of honour. Representatives from the beneficiary schools (heads of the schools, District and Municipal Educational officers, parents and students) participated.

Speaking at the event, BG Tanzania, John Ulanga said, “We are dedicated to supporting initiatives that promote the success of the education sector in the Southern coastal region, to ensure that activities are matched to the reality and need on the ground. Education forms a great pillar of BG Tanzania’s Social Investment strategy; it will play a critical role in promoting progressive sectors within and outside the oil industry. “

Our team was led by our Trustee famously known as ‘Mama Madawati’, Ambassador Bertha Semu-Somi, who thanked BG Tanzania for supporting the organization’s flagship project as contribution towards Government efforts to offset the existing shortage of desks in public schools in Tanzania.

“HMT’s dream is to improve the learning environment in schools. A Desk For Every Child is our starting point, to ensure no child has to sit on classroom floors” said Ambassador Somi. She continued to say “we are grateful for BG Tanzania’s tremendous support in the provision of better education to our future scientists, leaders, Engineers, Musicians, Artist and Inventors. This support by BG Tanzania in Lindi will reach more schools and more children will benefit from the project”.
